MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF SRI LANKA SCHOOLS BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
“We do not merely build basketball. We build character, community,
and the future of our nation, one student-athlete at a time.”
Basketball is more than a sport, it is a powerful tool for education,
character formation, and national transformation. As President of the Sri
Lanka Schools Basketball Association, I am deeply committed to
ensuring that our mission goes beyond building athletes. We are here to
nurture student-athletes who carry values for life, who lead with integrity, and who contribute
meaningfully to society. In every school, basketball must be more than competition, it must be
a platform for growth. The game teaches discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership.
These traits, cultivated on the court, prepare young minds to face life’s challenges with strength
and humility. Every student who steps onto the court learns to rise after setbacks, to respect
others, and to work together toward a common goal.
We believe in the holistic development of every student-athlete. Excellence in sport must go
hand in hand with excellence in academics. Basketball enhances focus, time management, and
strategic thinking, skills that directly support academic success. Our goal is to cultivate
individuals who are sharp in mind, strong in body, and noble in spirit. Through basketball,
students also learn the deeper values of respect, responsibility, and perseverance. These are not
just sporting principles, they are life principles. We want our players to carry these lessons into
their communities, becoming ambassadors of peace, inclusion, and unity.
The Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association is committed to elevating the standard of school
basketball across the nation. We aim to provide world-class opportunities, facilities, and
guidance to every student-athlete. Our courts must become arenas of growth, and our
tournaments must become platforms for national pride and personal excellence. We do not
merely build basketball, we build character, community, and the future of our nation. Let
basketball be the bridge between education and transformation. Let our student-athletes rise,
not just in scores, but in soul.
May God bless you.
